Clinical Application
Designed for intraoperative enlargement of the mitral valve orifice during open mitral valvotomy/commissurotomy and related valve procedures. The instrument permits controlled, incremental dilation of fused commissures or stenotic valve openings to restore leaflet mobility and improve effective orifice area. It is intended for use by cardiac surgeons in the operative setting when direct visualization and manual dilation are required.
Design & Configuration
The dilator uses an adjustable dilating head that provides a calibrated 4–10 mm range, allowing the surgeon to select incremental diameters without exchanging instruments. The slender shaft and proximal handle provide direct tactile feedback during dilation, enabling precise control of expansion force and depth. This configuration minimizes the need for repeated instrument exchanges and supports gradual, atraumatic commissural separation while preserving leaflet tissue integrity.
