Clinical Application
This Hegar dilator is intended for controlled cervical dilation to provide uterine access during gynecologic procedures. It is used in staged dilation protocols and for management of cervical stenosis prior to intrauterine procedures such as dilation and curettage, hysteroscopy, removal of intrauterine devices or retained tissue, and other operative interventions where atraumatic enlargement of the cervical canal is required. Manual tactile feedback during insertion helps clinicians judge tissue resistance and dilation progress.
Design & Configuration
The single-ended, rod-style configuration offers a smooth, tapered shaft with a rounded atraumatic tip to reduce local tissue trauma during passage. The uniform cylindrical geometry provides predictable tissue stretch and even distribution of radial force as the shaft is advanced. A single-ended pattern is compact and straightforward to use in standard dilation sequences, typically following smaller-diameter dilators when gradual enlargement is required.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Uterine dilator (Hegar pattern)
- Configuration: Single-ended (S/E)
- Size: 29.5 mm diameter
- Tip: Smooth, tapered, rounded (atraumatic)
- Typical use: Cervical dilation for diagnostic and operative gynecology
