Clinical Application
This Hegar dilator is intended for mechanical cervical dilation and calibration in gynecologic procedures. It is used to gradually widen the cervical canal prior to procedures such as dilation and curettage, hysteroscopy, intrauterine device placement, endometrial sampling, and other diagnostic or therapeutic intrauterine interventions. The instrument provides direct tactile feedback to the operator during progressive dilation and is suitable for use in hospital operating rooms, ambulatory surgery centers, and outpatient clinics.
Design & Configuration
The double-ended (D/E) design presents two adjacent sizes—7 mm and 8 mm—on a single instrument, allowing the clinician to select the appropriate diameter without exchanging instruments. Each end is a smooth, tapered cylindrical rod with a rounded tip to permit atraumatic entry and gradual dilation. The solid, rigid geometry provides controlled expansion of the cervical canal and reliable tactile sensation to gauge tissue resistance during dilation.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Hegar uterine dilator
- Pattern / model: Double-ended (D/E)
- Sizes: 7 mm and 8 mm
- Typical surgical use: Cervical dilation for gynecologic procedures
- Material: Stainless steel construction
- Reusable: Designed for repeated clinical use and sterilization
Material & Construction
Constructed from medical-grade stainless steel to resist corrosion and withstand routine sterilization. The smooth, polished surface and rounded tips reduce friction and tissue trauma during insertion and withdrawal. Solid rod construction provides axial strength required for controlled dilation while remaining suitable for standard reprocessing workflows, including steam autoclave cycles.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
