Clinical Application
This instrument is used to assess and manage urethral caliber and patency. The 27 Fr. caliber is selected when a larger lumen is required for dilation, calibration prior to definitive repair, or to facilitate passage of urinary catheters and introducers. It is commonly employed in urology clinics, ambulatory surgery centers and operating rooms for diagnosis and intraoperative guidance when treating urethral strictures, periurethral procedures, or when sequential dilation is part of the operative plan.
Design & Configuration
The tapered, atraumatic tip and semi-rigid shaft provide a balance between flexibility and firmness: the taper eases atraumatic entry into the urethral meatus and through narrowed segments, while shaft rigidity delivers tactile feedback so the operator can distinguish physiologic resistance from a true stricture. A smooth polished surface minimizes mucosal friction during insertion and withdrawal. The single-size, 27 Fr. geometry is used when a larger bore is necessary for subsequent instrument or catheter passage.
