Clinical Application
Engineered for thoracic surgery, this Finochietto rib spreader provides stable exposure of the pleural cavity during open thoracotomy, pulmonary resections, chest wall procedures, and trauma-related rib stabilization. The broad blade paddles distribute pressure over the rib surface to facilitate exposure while helping to minimize focal rib compression. Its self-retaining mechanism permits hands-free maintenance of the desired intercostal gap, improving access for dissection, stapling, and anastomosis.
Design & Configuration
The device features the classic Finochietto geometry: articulated arms with a controlled, incremental ratchet adjustment that allows the surgeon to open the chest in measured steps and lock the spreader at any position. The two blade paddles present wide contact surfaces to reduce point-loading on ribs. The overall length supports typical adult thoracic cavities while giving sufficient working distance for instruments and visualization.
