Clinical Application
Provides controlled, sustained retraction of the ribs and thoracic wall to expose the pleural space and mediastinum during open thoracotomy and other intrathoracic procedures. Commonly used for lobectomy, decortication, tumor resection, exploratory thoracotomy and trauma procedures where reliable, hands-free maintenance of the surgical field is required.
Design & Configuration
The Finochietto pattern features a ratchet-style, self-retaining mechanism that permits incremental opening and stable maintenance of the desired intercostal spread without continuous manual support. Broad blade seating distributes force across the rib surface to reduce focal pressure and improve soft-tissue management. Adjustable arms and blade holders allow the assistant or surgeon to fine-tune exposure while preserving access to the operative field.
