Clinical Application
This instrument is intended for precise removal of laminar bone and small bony spurs during spinal and neurosurgical procedures. It is routinely used in laminotomy, laminectomy, foraminotomy, and other decompression procedures where controlled biting of cortical and cancellous bone is required. The 45° angulation facilitates access to posterior and lateral laminar surfaces with minimal soft-tissue retraction, improving line-of-sight and bite orientation for the surgeon.
Design & Configuration
The 45° angulated working end is designed to reach under overhanging lamina and into foraminal recesses where a straight rongeur would have limited access. The bite-style cutting jaw provides a controlled purchase on bone, allowing incremental removal of chips and osteophytes. The shaft geometry and angulation reduce the need for excessive tissue retraction and help maintain an ergonomic wrist position for repetitive bites during decompression procedures, supporting precise, single-handed control.
