Clinical Application
Designed for controlled submucoperichondrial elevation, this instrument is used to raise mucoperichondrial flaps from the nasal septum to expose cartilage and bone during septoplasty and rhinoplasty. It facilitates creation of a clear dissection plane for septal cartilage reshaping, graft harvest, or removal of deviated septal segments while minimizing mucosal trauma when used with appropriate technique.
Design & Configuration
The Cottle pattern provides a hand-held elevator geometry that balances shaft length and tip access for intra-nasal work. The 23 cm overall length gives adequate reach and working distance for most adult nasal procedures, enabling the operator to maintain a comfortable grip while delivering fine tactile feedback during subperichondrial dissection. The rigid shaft transmits controlled force to the tip so surgeons can separate mucosa from cartilage and bone with precision and reduced risk of unintended perforation when used with careful technique.
