Clinical Application
Designed for atraumatic urethral passage, these bougies are used to dilate stenotic segments, perform urethral sounding for diagnostic assessment, and act as a guide for difficult catheter placements. The two sizes (16 Fr and 20 Fr) cover common clinical needs for adult urethral calibration and stepwise dilation during urologic procedures, office-based interventions, and catheter exchanges.
Design & Configuration
The instruments feature a slender, straight shaft with a smooth taper to an atraumatic rounded tip. The tapered geometry facilitates gradual dilation and minimizes mucosal trauma while the firm shaft provides tactile feedback to the operator, improving control during blind or semi-blind passage. A paired 16 Fr and 20 Fr configuration allows staged dilation without requiring multiple different instrument types.
