Clinical Application
Designed to provide controlled distraction of adjacent laminae during posterior spinal procedures, this instrument facilitates exposure for laminotomy, laminectomy, decompression of neural elements, and related instrumented procedures. The device allows the surgeon to maintain a stable working corridor while performing bone removal, undercutting of the lamina, or placing implants and hemostatic agents.
Design & Configuration
The cam-and-ratchet locking mechanism provides incremental, single-handed spreading with positive lock at each step, allowing the assistant or surgeon to set and maintain a consistent distraction without continuous manual force. The 30 mm maximum spread offers a balance between sufficient separation for visualization and minimizing soft-tissue strain. At 17 cm overall length, the instrument provides reach into posterior cervical and thoracolumbar corridors while maintaining tactile control and visibility at the operative field. Broad laminar blades are configured to seat on the bony margins to distribute pressure and stabilize the retractor during bone work.
