Clinical Application
This chuck-and-key assembly is used to secure and drive small-diameter guide wires and drill bits within a wire drill guide system. It provides a positive clamp for K-wires, guide wires, and pilot drills during common procedures in orthopedics and trauma, as well as hand, wrist and foot surgery where precise wire trajectory and rotational stability are required. By firmly locking the wire or bit into the drill-guide interface, the assembly helps maintain alignment during drilling, wire insertion, and temporary fixation steps.
Design & Configuration
The keyed chuck provides a mechanically secure means of engaging round wire and small-diameter drill shafts. The separate key allows the operator to apply controlled torque to tighten or release the jaws, minimizing slippage and reducing rotational play that can alter wire trajectory. The compact chuck profile is intended to integrate with standard wire drill guide heads, keeping the clamping interface close to the guide to preserve accuracy and tactile feedback during advancement.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Chuck and key for wire drill guide
- Configuration: Keyed chuck with matching key for tightening and loosening
- Typical use: Securing guide wires and small-diameter drill bits during drilling and wire placement
- Material: Surgical-grade stainless steel
- Reusable: Yes
Material & Construction
Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel for corrosion resistance and longevity under repeated reprocessing. The separate key is designed to engage the chuck's drive recess cleanly to allow reliable torque transfer without damaging wire or bit shafts. The durable stainless construction supports routine cleaning, inspection, and sterilization workflows common to reusable surgical instrumentation.
Quality & Compliance
