Clinical Application
Designed for controlled removal of bone and dense soft tissue in confined spinal and cranial corridors, this up-biting rongeur is used during laminectomy, decompression and other spinal procedures to excise portions of the lamina, facets or osteophytes. The up-oriented bite facilitates approaching and elevating tissue from inferior-to-superior angles, improving visibility and access in tight operative fields.
Design & Configuration
The upward-facing jaw geometry provides a precise, upward-directed bite that is advantageous when working beneath bony overhangs or when creating a superior-directed cavity. A 4 x 14 mm cutting surface balances a narrow profile for minimal collateral disruption with sufficient bite area for progressive removal of cortical bone. The 14 cm instrument length offers tactile control and reach suited to typical posterior spinal approaches while maintaining dexterity in deep or narrow exposures.
