Clinical Application
This Bunnell-pattern tendon stripper is intended for atraumatic mobilization and harvest of superficial tendons during orthopaedic and sports-medicine procedures. It is commonly used to free hamstring tendons (semitendinosus, gracilis) for ACL reconstruction and to strip tendons during tendon transfer or repair procedures where a controlled, blunt dissection of the peritendinous tissue is required. The slender profile permits passage through small incisions while maintaining tactile feedback for the surgeon.
Design & Configuration
The tubular, tapered Bunnell configuration provides an atraumatic leading edge that slides along the tendon sheath to separate adhesions and connective tissue without cutting the tendon itself. The 5 mm diameter shaft allows insertion through limited exposures or cannulated harvesting sites, while the 15 cm length offers sufficient reach for most lower-extremity harvests. The geometry balances shaft rigidity for controlled stripping with a smooth atraumatic tip to minimize tendon fraying.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Tendon stripper (Bunnell pattern)
- Size: 5 mm diameter; 15 cm length
- Tip pattern: Tubular, tapered atraumatic tip for blunt stripping
- Primary use: Tendon harvest and mobilization for grafting and tendon procedures
- Construction: Surgical-grade stainless steel; reusable
Material & Construction
Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel to provide durability and repeated sterilization compatibility. The single-piece tubular working end is designed to retain a smooth internal lumen to facilitate atraumatic passage along the tendon. Suitable for standard sterilization workflows including steam autoclave and washer-disinfector reprocessing when used according to facility protocols.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
