Clinical Application
This speculum is intended to provide a clear, atraumatic opening into the external auditory canal for direct visualization of the canal and tympanic membrane. It is used during diagnostic otoscopy, cerumen removal, suctioning, foreign-body retrieval, and other minor aural procedures where a stable, appropriately sized conduit is required to view or pass instruments into the canal.
Design & Configuration
The conical (funnel) geometry concentrates the viewing aperture and provides a smooth, tapered lumen that facilitates instrument passage while minimizing soft-tissue trauma. The Fig. 2 size balances patient comfort with sufficient working diameter for visualization and irrigation or suction instruments. A smooth, flared rim helps seat the speculum comfortably at the canal entrance and stabilizes the field for examination or treatment.
