Clinical Application
Soft 1.5 mm bone wire is used for cerclage and tension-band constructs where a malleable wire must be passed around bone and tightened by twisting. Typical applications include fixation of patellar fractures, olecranon and periprosthetic cerclage, tension-band wiring of small-to-medium‑sized long-bone fractures, and supplemental fixation alongside screws and pins. The soft configuration permits controlled twisting and knotting to achieve stable circumferential compression without excessive spring-back.
Design & Configuration
The annealed (soft) wire geometry provides increased pliability compared with hard-drawn wire, allowing surgeons to contour the wire to bone anatomy and to apply incremental tension during twisting. The 1.5 mm diameter balances handling and tensile properties for many common cerclage and tension-band constructs, while the 10 m coil offers sufficient length for multiple loops or several procedures per pack. The malleable nature facilitates secure seating of twists and crimps and improves compatibility with standard wire-twisting instruments and tensioners.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Bone cerclage wire
- Pattern / model: soft
- Configuration: single-strand coil, malleable/annealed
- Length or size: 1.5 mm × 10 m
- Typical surgical use: cerclage fixation and tension-band wiring
- Material / construction: surgical-grade annealed stainless steel
Material & Construction
Constructed from annealed surgical-grade stainless steel to provide the soft, ductile properties required for twisting and contouring. The annealed finish reduces spring-back and makes the wire easier to seat and crimp during tensioning procedures. The material selection supports corrosion resistance consistent with standard orthopedic wiring products.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
