Clinical Application
This hand-operated awl/reamer is designed to create and enlarge pilot holes and entry points in cortical and cancellous bone. It is commonly used during orthopedic and trauma procedures to initiate a track for K-wires, guide pins, Steinmann pins, or small-diameter fixation devices, and to locally ream bone to improve implant seating or screw trajectory in confined surgical fields.
Design & Configuration
The T-handle delivers direct, axial torque with improved tactile feedback, allowing the surgeon to control penetration depth and rotational force while minimizing slippage. The compact 14 cm shaft provides sufficient reach for most extremity and small-bone applications while maintaining balance and control at the tip. The awl/reamer tip concentrates hand force to initiate cortical entry and can be used to progressively enlarge cancellous bone when gentle rotary motion is applied.
