Clinical Application

This lateral retraction blade is used to provide controlled lateral exposure of soft tissues during anterior cervical procedures, including anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and other anterior cervical spine exposures. When mounted to a Caspar retractor frame, the blade maintains consistent lateral displacement of the platysma, strap muscles and prevertebral tissues to optimize visualization of vertebral bodies and disc spaces while preserving working space for surgical instruments.

Design & Configuration

The rectangular 35x23 mm lateral footprint offers a balance between contact area and focal pressure: a sufficiently large surface to distribute retraction forces and reduce tissue focal stress, while remaining compact enough for segmental exposures. The lateral orientation is intended to engage and displace soft tissues laterally, allowing the surgeon unobstructed orthogonal access to the anterior cervical column. Secure attachment to the Caspar retractor arm provides stable counter-traction throughout the procedure.

Instrument Specifications

  • Instrument type: lateral retraction blade for Caspar retractor
  • Pattern / model: Caspar lateral blade
  • Configuration: flat lateral blade with rectangular profile
  • Size: 35x23 mm
  • Typical surgical use: anterior cervical spine exposure (e.g., ACDF)
  • Material: titanium
  • Reusable: designed for repeated clinical use and reprocessing

Material & Construction

Constructed from titanium to provide a lightweight, corrosion-resistant and biocompatible retraction surface. Titanium construction reduces instrument weight on the retractor assembly while maintaining structural strength for secure tissue retraction. The blade is intended for repeated reprocessing and sterilization according to facility protocols.

Quality & Compliance

Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.

Brand Comparison

Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
