Clinical Application
Fenestrated blades for the Caspar cervical retractor are used to obtain and maintain exposure during anterior cervical spine procedures, including anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and other anterior approaches to the cervical vertebrae. The fenestrated blade engages and holds soft tissues and platysma with broad, distributed contact while creating a visible window for the operative field, suction access, and instrument passage. The 60 x 25 mm footprint is intended for narrower cervical corridors where controlled, localized retraction is required to expose intervertebral discs and vertebral bodies without excessive tissue compression.
Design & Configuration
The fenestrated geometry reduces continuous pressure on soft tissues by providing open windows that allow fluid egress and direct visualization of the retracted plane. A flat blade profile seats securely against soft-tissue planes and can be engaged with standard Caspar retractor arms and posts, delivering stable exposure while permitting simultaneous use of suction or aspirator through the fenestration. The 60 x 25 mm size balances working space and tissue protection for segments of the cervical spine where a smaller blade footprint is preferred.
Instrument Specifications
- Size: 60 x 25 mm blade footprint
- Pattern: Fenestrated retraction surface
- System: For Caspar cervical retractor assemblies
- Clinical use: Anterior cervical exposure (ACDF and related procedures)
- Construction: Precision-machined stainless steel
