Clinical Application
Blunt retraction blades for Caspar retractors are used to maintain soft-tissue and surgical-field exposure during anterior cervical spine procedures, including ACDF and other anterior cervical approaches. The blunt profile provides atraumatic retraction of longus colli, prevertebral fascia, and surrounding soft tissues while helping to protect the esophagus and trachea during dissection and implant placement. These blades are intended for use with Caspar-style cervical retractor frames to create and hold a stable working corridor at the operative level.
Design & Configuration
The 45x24 mm rectangular footprint balances surface area and tissue pressure to provide effective exposure without concentrated point loading. A blunt, rounded leading edge minimizes soft-tissue trauma during insertion and retraction. The geometry is optimized to sit along the vertebral bodies and disc space, giving a stable platform for instrumentation and visualization while allowing surgeons to control depth and orientation of retraction through the retractor frame.
