Clinical Application
This medial blade is designed for use with Caspar-style self-retaining cervical retractor systems to provide stable midline retraction during anterior cervical spine procedures (e.g., anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, corpectomy, and other anterior cervical exposures). Positioned medially, the blade secures and protects soft tissues while maintaining an unobstructed surgical corridor to the disc space and vertebral bodies, reducing the need for continuous hand-held retraction and enabling precise microsurgical and instrumentation work.
Design & Configuration
The low-profile medial geometry concentrates contact over a defined rectangular surface to distribute retraction forces evenly across soft tissues while minimizing lateral footprint in the wound. This configuration improves line-of-sight to the operative field and facilitates instrument passage between the blade and the vertebral column. Rounded edges and a flat contacting surface help reduce focal pressure points on soft tissue and esophageal structures. The blade is intended to mount to Caspar-style posts on the retractor frame to deliver stable, adjustable self-retention during the procedure.
