Clinical Application
This lateral blade is designed for use with a Caspar cervical retractor system to provide controlled lateral displacement of soft tissues during anterior cervical spine procedures such as anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and anterior cervical exposures. By holding the paraspinal and longus colli tissues laterally, the blade improves visualization of the disc space and vertebral bodies, facilitates endplate preparation and implant placement, and helps maintain a stable working corridor for microsurgical tools and implants.
Design & Configuration
The lateral geometry provides a broad, flat surface that distributes retraction forces over a larger area, reducing point pressure on soft tissue while maintaining secure lateral retraction. The 55 x 24 mm blade dimension offers moderate reach and contact area appropriate for standard adult cervical exposures. The blade is configured to mount to the Caspar retractor frame, allowing stable fixation and positional adjustment during the procedure to maintain clear exposure throughout the case.
