Clinical Application
This lateral blade is intended to provide controlled lateral soft-tissue retraction and sustained exposure of the anterior cervical surgical corridor. Commonly used in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and other anterior cervical approaches, the blade holds paraspinal and visceral tissues laterally when mounted to a Caspar retractor, maintaining a stable working field for discectomy, endplate preparation, graft insertion and instrument placement while reducing the need for manual retraction.
Design & Configuration
The blade's lateral orientation and 35x24 mm footprint deliver a balance between operative exposure and tissue protection. Its geometry provides a broad, low-profile contact surface that distributes retraction pressure and helps minimize focal tissue trauma. The mounting interface is configured to secure to Caspar retractor assemblies, allowing positional stability and repeatable placement during distraction and instrumentation steps without interfering with midline access.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Lateral blade for Caspar retractor
- Pattern / model: Caspar lateral blade
- Configuration: Lateral retraction blade designed to mount to Caspar retractor arms
- Size: 35x24 mm
- Typical surgical use: Lateral soft-tissue retraction/exposure for anterior cervical procedures
