Clinical Application
This lateral retractor blade is designed for use with Caspar-style cervical retractors to provide consistent lateral soft-tissue retraction during anterior cervical procedures such as anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and other anterior approaches to the cervical spine. The blade’s contact area supports atraumatic retraction of prevertebral tissues and longus colli while maintaining exposure of the disc space and vertebral bodies, allowing for visualization, instrumentation, and graft placement.
Design & Configuration
The lateral geometry provides a low-profile, contoured contact surface that distributes retraction force over a broader area to reduce localized tissue pressure. The 30 x 24 mm footprint balances exposure with a compact profile for work inside a confined cervical corridor. A tapered leading edge facilitates atraumatic insertion between tissue planes and the blade is shaped to seat securely in the retractor frame for stable, hands-free retraction during distraction and operative maneuvers.
