Clinical Application

This guillotine cutting blade is intended for use in guillotine tonsillectomy procedures performed with the Sluder-Ballenger tonsillotome system. When mounted in the corresponding Fig.2 frame, the blade provides a controlled shearing action that facilitates en bloc removal of tonsillar tissue at the tonsillar pillar and fossa. It is used in operating rooms, ENT clinics, and ambulatory surgery centers where rapid, reproducible tonsil excision is required.

Design & Configuration

The blade is configured as a replaceable guillotine cutting element that seats into the frame of the Sluder-Ballenger tonsillotome Fig.2. The geometry and precision-ground cutting edge ensure secure engagement with the instrument frame and consistent alignment of the cutting surfaces. Proper mating of blade and frame minimizes tissue slippage and supports controlled, predictable excision with each guillotine action.
