Clinical Application
Designed for controlled resection of meniscal tissue, this Bircher-style meniscotome is used to trim and remove degenerative or torn portions of the meniscus during partial meniscectomy procedures. Its curved geometry facilitates access to posterior horns and recesses of the knee joint, helping the surgeon reach medial and lateral compartments with minimal need for instrument redirection. The instrument is suitable for both arthroscopic-assisted and limited open meniscal work where a handheld cutting instrument is preferred for precise tissue excision.
Design & Configuration
The curved shaft aligns the distal cutting profile with the meniscal plane, improving visualization and approach to posterior tissue without excessive manipulation of soft tissues. A fine, purpose-shaped cutting tip enables controlled bites of meniscal tissue while reducing the risk of inadvertent contact with adjacent articular cartilage. The 19 cm overall length provides working reach inside the joint while retaining tactile feedback for delicate resection.
