Clinical Application
Provides a controlled port of entry for minimally invasive procedures. The trocar/ cannula assembly is used to gain peritoneal or pelvic access, permit pneumoperitoneum, and serve as a working channel for laparoscopic instruments, cameras, suction, and insufflation tubing. Common applications include general surgery, gynecologic procedures, urology, and other diagnostic or operative laparoscopic interventions where a durable reusable port is preferred.
Design & Configuration
The set combines a sharp or blunt obturator (trocar) with a hollow cannula sleeve to create and maintain a stable instrument portal. The obturator is inserted through the abdominal wall to create access while the cannula remains in place to preserve pneumoperitoneum and allow repeated instrument exchanges with minimal tissue trauma. Selection of obturator geometry and cannula diameter affects ease of entry, control of tissue displacement, and seal integrity during instrumentation.
