Clinical Application
This instrument is intended for controlled dilation of the extrahepatic biliary system during hepatobiliary procedures. It is used to progressively dilate the common bile duct during open or laparoscopic choledochotomy to facilitate stone extraction, introduce stents, place T‑tubes or accommodate retrieval instrumentation. The 12 mm nominal diameter provides a commonly required lumen size for passage of endoscopic or surgical devices while minimizing abrupt radial stress on the duct.
Design & Configuration
The long 30 cm shaft provides reach into the distal and proximal extrahepatic biliary tree from an abdominal or retroperitoneal approach. A tapered, smoothly contoured tip enables gradual, atraumatic dilation as the instrument is advanced, reducing the risk of focal tearing. The slender profile and continuous taper allow the surgeon to control the rate and extent of dilation manually, important when creating a controlled working lumen for stone removal or device placement.
