Clinical Application
This curved Macintosh blade is sized to facilitate direct laryngoscopy and orotracheal intubation in pediatric and small adult patients. The #2 geometry provides the working length and curvature commonly used to position the blade tip in the vallecula, indirectly lifting the epiglottis to expose the glottic opening for endotracheal tube placement during elective and urgent airway management.
Design & Configuration
The Macintosh curved profile is designed to follow the oropharyngeal curvature, allowing the clinician to obtain a line-of-sight to the vocal cords with minimal anterior displacement. The blade tip is shaped to seat in the vallecula, transferring lifting force to the epiglottis rather than directly lifting it, which reduces soft-tissue trauma and improves visualization in routine intubations. The conventional (American) pattern provides familiar ergonomics for users trained on standard laryngoscope systems.
