Clinical Application
Allis-style tissue forceps with a 5x6 tooth tip are intended to provide a secure, atraumatic-to-moderately-traumatic grip on dense tissue and tissue edges for traction, retraction, or temporary holding during open and some confined procedures. Common uses include grasping fascia, subcutaneous tissue, wound edges, and other firm tissues where secure purchase is required for manipulation, exposure, or suture placement. These forceps are not recommended for handling fragile tissues such as bowel serosa or delicate vessels without appropriate caution due to the toothed tip design.
Design & Configuration
The 5x6 tooth jaw pattern features offset interlocking teeth that concentrate contact points to resist slippage under tension. Short, toothed jaws provide focused purchase while limiting the contact area to reduce the need for excessive closing force. Ring handles with a ratchet-style lock allow the instrument to be secured at a controlled closure pressure, freeing a hand while maintaining traction. The 19 cm overall length balances tactile control and reach for most open abdominal and soft-tissue procedures.
