Clinical Application
This malleable blunt Sims curette is intended for gynecologic tissue sampling and evacuation tasks where a gentle, atraumatic scraping action is required. Typical uses include endometrial curettage, removal of polyps or retained products of conception, and controlled debridement of the uterine cavity during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. The blunt profile reduces the risk of tissue laceration and perforation compared with sharp curettes, making it suitable for situations where tactile feedback and minimized trauma are priorities.
Design & Configuration
The malleable shaft allows the clinician to contour the instrument intraoperatively to match patient anatomy or access angles, improving reach and control within the uterine cavity. The Fig.6 Sims pattern provides the classic spoon-shaped scraping surface; the blunt tip distributes force over a broader area for scraping and tissue collection rather than cutting. A 25 cm overall length provides extended reach for deeper cavities or when additional working length is required from the operator's hand position.
