Clinical Application
The Sims-pattern curette with a malleable shaft and blunt tip is intended for controlled tissue sampling and gentle debridement within the uterine cavity and endocervical canal. It is commonly used for diagnostic endocervical curettage, office-based endometrial sampling, removal of retained products of conception, and procedures where preservation of tissue architecture is required for histologic analysis.
Design & Configuration
The malleable shaft permits the clinician to contour the instrument intraoperatively to match patient anatomy or specific access angles, improving reach and tactile feedback in confined cavities. The blunt, rounded curette edge is designed to scoop and collect tissue with minimized risk of perforation compared with sharp curettes. The Fig.5 Sims profile reflects the classic curvature and tip geometry favored in gynecologic sampling.
