Clinical Application
This instrument is used to mechanically sample or remove endometrial tissue from the uterine cavity. Common applications include diagnostic and therapeutic dilation and curettage (D&C), endometrial biopsy for histopathology, and removal of retained products of conception following miscarriage or incomplete abortion. The length facilitates access to the fundus in a variety of uterine anatomies while providing the clinician tactile feedback during curettage.
Design & Configuration
The single-ended configuration with a long, rigid shaft transmits controlled force from the operator's hand to the curette tip, enabling precise scraping and collection of uterine tissue. The oval/spoon-shaped tip presents an even cutting or scraping edge across its surface, allowing efficient tissue removal while minimizing focal pressure. The instrument's profile and length are selected to balance reach to the fundus with ease of intrauterine manipulation during blind or ultrasound-assisted procedures.
