Clinical Application

Designed for intrauterine scraping and tissue removal, this Sims-pattern uterine curette is used for diagnostic and therapeutic gynecologic procedures such as endometrial sampling and dilation & curettage (D&C). The blunt, spoon-shaped working end permits controlled removal of endometrial tissue and products of conception while reducing the risk of focal penetration when used with appropriate technique.

Design & Configuration

The malleable shaft allows the operator to contour the instrument to the patient’s uterine axis, improving access and tactile feedback during curettage. The Fig. 4 Sims geometry is a conventional configuration that balances rigidity for effective scraping with enough flexibility to conform to uterine curvature. A rounded, blunt curette tip provides a scraping surface that is effective for tissue collection while minimizing sharp edges that could increase perforation risk.
