Clinical Application

Designed for diagnostic and therapeutic uterine curettage, this rigid Sims-style curette provides a blunt 23 mm scoop for controlled scraping and removal of endometrial tissue, retained products of conception, or intrauterine debris. Its geometry is suited for procedures where a larger working surface and firm tactile feedback are required, including postpartum evacuation, elective dilation and curettage (D&C), and operative endometrial sampling when a blunt instrument is preferred to minimize focal trauma.

Design & Configuration

The Sims (Figure 12) configuration features a slightly angled, rigid shaft that aligns with the uterine axis to allow the scoop to engage the endometrial surface effectively. A rigid construction offers direct transmission of tactile feedback and improved control during tissue removal compared with flexible curettes. The blunt 23 mm scoop reduces the risk of focal perforation relative to sharp curettes while providing a larger contact area for efficient debridement and collection of tissue.
