Clinical Application

This rigid Sims curette is designed for gynecologic procedures requiring controlled scraping or removal of endometrial tissue. Common uses include diagnostic and therapeutic dilation & curettage (D&C), endometrial sampling, removal of retained products of conception, and intrauterine cleaning after miscarriage or incomplete delivery. The blunt, spoon-shaped tip permits effective tissue collection while reducing the tendency to engage point tissue, making it suitable for both office and operating room settings when firm, predictable control is required.

Design & Configuration

The rigid shaft provides direct tactile feedback and enhanced push–pull control compared with flexible curettes, which is important when reaching the uterine fundus or working through a cervix that is only partially dilated. The 12 mm spoon-shaped, blunt tip balances adequate surface area for tissue removal with a reduced risk of focal penetration compared with sharp curette designs. The 31 cm overall length offers extended reach for larger uterine cavities or when used with cervical dilators and specula in situ. The Figure 5 (Fig.5) Sims pattern denotes the classic scoop geometry commonly used in contemporary gynecologic practice.
