Clinical Application

This instrument is a Sims-pattern uterine curette designed for manual endometrial sampling and tissue removal during gynecologic procedures. It is indicated for dilation and curettage (D&C), targeted endometrial biopsy, and removal of retained products of conception or membranes following miscarriage or delivery. The scoop-shaped working end permits controlled scraping and collection of tissue for histopathologic evaluation and management of intrauterine pathology.

Design & Configuration

The rigid shaft provides direct tactile feedback and controlled force transfer for deliberate scraping of the endometrial surface. The Fig. 4 Sims profile places the spoon-shaped tip on an axis suitable for engaging the fundus and lateral walls while maintaining visibility and instrument control during a transvaginal approach. An 11 mm bowl offers a balance between obtaining adequate tissue samples and minimizing instrumental bulk within the uterine cavity, while the 31 cm overall length ensures sufficient reach and working distance for standard gynecologic access.
