Clinical Application
Designed for controlled artificial rupture of membranes (amniotomy) during labor management and for selected gynecologic procedures where controlled perforation of the amniotic sac is required. The instrument is used by obstetricians, midwives, and other trained clinicians to create a small opening in the fetal membranes to accelerate labor progress, allow internal fetal monitoring, or obtain amniotic fluid samples. Proper technique and sterile conditions are required to minimize infection risk and avoid inadvertent trauma.
Design & Configuration
The 26 cm shaft length provides adequate reach through the vaginal canal and cervix for most clinical scenarios while preserving tactile feedback. A fine, hooked tip permits a focused, controlled perforation of the membranes with minimal surrounding tissue contact. The slender profile facilitates visualization and placement, and the single-ended configuration simplifies handling during bedside procedures.
