Clinical Application
This 4 mm uterine dilator is intended for controlled cervical dilation to facilitate access to the uterine cavity. Common uses include office and operating-room procedures such as hysteroscopy setup, dilation and curettage (D&C), endometrial sampling, IUD placement in cases where minimal dilation is required, and initial sizing in serial dilation protocols. The small-diameter instrument is used as an initial or conservative dilator in patients with a tight or stenotic cervix, or in office-based gynecologic procedures where limited dilation reduces patient discomfort.
Design & Configuration
The straight shaft configuration provides direct line access and tactile feedback during advancement and rotation. A small 4 mm diameter reduces radial force on the cervical canal, lowering the risk of excessive trauma when used as an initial dilator. The Fig.4 designation indicates this instrument's position within the manufacturers sizing/profile sequence, allowing it to be used reliably in serial dilation sets alongside larger sizes for stepwise cervical dilation.
