Clinical Application
This uterine dilator provides controlled, atraumatic cervical canal dilation to permit safe introduction of intrauterine instruments. At a 2 mm working diameter, it is used as an initial or early-size dilator in sequential dilation protocols for procedures such as diagnostic or therapeutic dilation and curettage (D&C), hysteroscopy access, endometrial biopsy, and placement or removal of small intrauterine devices where incremental dilatation of the cervix is required.
Design & Configuration
The instrument’s single-ended, rigid shaft and blunt, tapered tip facilitate smooth entry into the cervical os with tactile feedback that helps the operator gauge resistance and progression. The small 2 mm diameter is appropriate for initial dilation and for use in graduated dilator sets; the tapered geometry reduces localized stress on the cervical tissue for more controlled dilation while minimizing trauma.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Uterine dilator
- Pattern / model: J.M.S.W.S Type, Fig.2
- Configuration: Single-ended, rigid dilator with tapered working end
- Size: 2 mm working diameter
- Typical use: Sequential cervical dilation to enable intrauterine procedures
