Clinical Application

Double-ended Hegar dilators provide controlled, sequential mechanical dilation of the cervical canal to allow safe access to the uterine cavity. They are used routinely to dilate the cervix prior to procedures such as diagnostic or operative hysteroscopy, dilation and curettage (D&C), endometrial biopsy/sampling, intrauterine device insertion, and other gynecologic interventions where gradual cervical enlargement is required.

Design & Configuration

The double-ended configuration pairs two adjacent diameters on one instrument, reducing tray bulk and instrument changes during procedures. Each end features a smooth, rounded taper that facilitates atraumatic entry and progressive dilation. Incremental paired sizes (e.g., 3/4, 5/6, etc.) allow the clinician to advance dilation in small, controlled steps to minimize cervical trauma and patient discomfort. Supplied in a pouch for organization and protection between cases.
