Clinical Application

Designed for atraumatic mechanical dilation of the cervical canal, this Hegar-style dilator is used to increase cervical diameter prior to intrauterine procedures. Typical applications include dilation and curettage (D&C), preparation for hysteroscopy, insertion or removal of intrauterine devices, and other gynecologic or obstetric interventions where controlled enlargement of the cervical os is required. It is intended to be used in a stepwise fashion as part of a graduated dilator set or individually when a specific diameter is required.

The single-ended, straight Hegar geometry provides a smooth, gently tapered profile to facilitate progressive passage through the cervical canal while minimizing tissue snagging. A rounded, polished tip reduces mucosal trauma during insertion, and the uniform cylindrical shaft offers predictable tactile feedback so the operator can assess resistance and dilation progression. The single-ended configuration is efficient for procurement of individual sizes for clinics that stock commonly used diameters, and integrates readily into standard dilation technique and instrument trays.
