Clinical Application

This double-ended Sims vaginal speculum provides lateral retraction and secure exposure of the vaginal walls and cervix for diagnostic and minor procedural work in outpatient clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, and hospital settings. The two small blade profiles support exams and interventions in patients with a narrow introitus or when a lower-profile blade is preferred to reduce patient discomfort. Typical uses include visual inspection, Pap smear sampling, IUD placement, vaginal swabs, and localized biopsies or minor operative procedures.

Design & Configuration

The double-ended configuration pairs two small Sims-style blades on one instrument, allowing clinicians to select the appropriate blade size without exchanging instruments mid-procedure. The Sims blade geometry—slightly curved with a broad surface—provides effective lateral displacement of the posterior vaginal wall and improved line-of-sight to the cervix. A low-profile (small) sizing reduces stretching at the introitus and can facilitate access in patients with anatomic constraints.
