Clinical Application
Used to establish or re-establish urethral patency in adult and pediatric urology, this instrument is intended for atraumatic passage through the urethra for dilation, calibration of urethral strictures, assessment of lumen caliber, and as a guide for catheter or scope placement. The 17 Fr caliber is commonly used where moderate dilation is required and when passage of a catheter or other device of similar diameter is planned.
Design & Configuration
The tapered, single-ended geometry provides a smooth progressive profile for controlled dilation and minimizes focal trauma at the urethral meatus and within the urethral lumen. A rounded atraumatic tip reduces mucosal catching during advancement while a smooth, consistently contoured shaft transmits tactile feedback to the operator—important when negotiating strictures or narrow segments. The straightforward configuration facilitates one-handed control and predictable handling during urethral calibration and catheter guidance.
