Clinical Application
Small-caliber Lister urethral bougies are intended for precise urethral access, calibration, and gentle dilation where narrow-caliber instrumentation is required. The 2/5 FG size is optimized for neonates, infants and other patients with very small or stenotic urethral lumens. Clinically they are used to probe and assess patency, to dilate strictures incrementally, and to serve as a guide over which catheters or guidewires can be advanced during urologic procedures.
Design & Configuration
The Lister pattern features a slender, flexible shaft with a tapered distal profile and a smooth, rounded tip to reduce the risk of mucosal trauma and false passage. Flexibility allows navigation of the urethral curvature while providing sufficient column strength for controlled, tactile manipulation. Small-caliber geometry facilitates atraumatic passage in pediatric and narrow adult urethras and supports staged dilation when performed progressively with larger sizes.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Urethral bougie (Lister pattern)
- Configuration: Flexible, tapered dilator with atraumatic rounded tip
- Size: 2/5 FG
- Typical surgical use: Urethral calibration, dilation, and catheter/guide guidance
- Reusable: Intended for repeated use and sterilization
Material & Construction
