Clinical Application
This device provides controlled, atraumatic separation of the bladder neck to improve exposure during open urologic procedures. It is commonly used during retropubic prostatectomy (Millin approach), open bladder neck reconstructions, removal of intravesical calculi or obstructing tissue, and other procedures that require direct visualization and access to the bladder outlet. By maintaining a stable operative field, the spreader facilitates precise dissection, hemostasis, and suture placement at the bladder neck.
Design & Configuration
The spreader features two opposing blades sized and shaped to engage the bladder neck margins and gently separate them without adding bulk to the field. The compact, hand-held design allows the surgeon or assistant to apply controlled lateral force while maintaining a low profile in the operative wound. Blade geometry and tapering are intended to provide secure tissue engagement and predictable spreading mechanics, improving visualization of the prostatic urethra and bladder neck for dissection and reconstruction.
