Clinical Application
The Legueu bladder retractor is a handheld exposure instrument used to retract and protect the urinary bladder during pelvic, urologic, and vaginal surgical procedures. It is indicated for elevation and isolation of the anterior bladder wall during open cystotomy, bladder repair, prostatectomy, hysterectomy, anterior vaginal wall repair, and other pelvic dissections where consistent, atraumatic retraction is required. The retractor permits an assistant or surgeon to maintain stable exposure while minimizing direct manipulation of the bladder.
Design & Configuration
The retractor features a broad, gently curved blade geometry that conforms to the contour of the bladder and anterior pelvic floor. The broad contact surface distributes retraction force over a larger area to reduce focal pressure on delicate bladder tissue, while the blunt, smooth edges limit risk of mucosal injury. As a handheld instrument, it provides tactile feedback and fine control for incremental repositioning during dissection or repair. The single-piece blade-to-handle design enhances rigidity and predictable control at the tip.
