Clinical Application
Designed for urologic use, this Mayo kidney stone probe provides tactile access to the renal collecting system and ureter to localize, probe, and manipulate calculi. It is used intraoperatively to assess stone mobility, to probe the lumen for patency, and to aid in positioning or dislodging fragments during endourologic and open procedures. The instrument is intended for direct manual use by urologists and surgical teams in operating rooms and procedure suites.
Design & Configuration
The 32 cm length gives extended reach into the ureter and renal pelvis while maintaining control at the handle. A rigid, single-ended shaft transmits tactile feedback to the operator, improving the ability to feel stone edges and assess resistance without relying on forceful manipulation. The probe tip is shaped for atraumatic contact with urothelium and calculi, minimizing tissue injury while allowing precise guidance and engagement of stones.
