Clinical Application
Designed for controlled dilation of the extrahepatic biliary system, this instrument is used during open common bile duct exploration (choledochotomy) and other biliary procedures to enlarge a ductal lumen, facilitate passage of instruments or drains, and aid removal of stones or placement of T-tubes and stents. The 7 mm diameter is suitable for moderate dilation where gradual lumen enlargement is required without excessive tissue trauma.
Design & Configuration
The device features a gradual taper from the shaft to an atraumatic tip to permit progressive, controlled dilation. The 30 cm working length provides sufficient reach from an abdominal incision into the common bile duct and toward the hepatic duct confluence in most adult open procedures. A straight shaft with a smooth taper facilitates tactile feedback during advancement and reduces the risk of focal pressure points on the ductal wall, helping the surgeon perform stepwise dilation with precision.
