Clinical Application
Designed for intraoperative biliary work, this dilator is used to dilate strictures of the extrahepatic bile ducts, negotiate narrow cystic ducts, or gently enlarge the ampullary region to facilitate instrumentation. It is commonly employed during open or laparoscopic common bile duct exploration, choledochoscopy access, and procedures requiring atraumatic dilation to permit passage of baskets, scopes, or retrieval devices.
Design & Configuration
The slender, tapered 2 mm tip provides a small-diameter leading profile to negotiate tight strictures and narrow ductal segments while minimizing mucosal trauma. The 30 cm shaft length gives sufficient reach for intra-abdominal access from standard operative approaches, allowing the surgeon to maintain control at the handle while the taper negotiates the duct. The gradual taper and smooth finish reduce friction during insertion and withdrawal, facilitating controlled dilation.
