Clinical Application
Provides focused retraction of the tonsillar pillars and soft palate to improve visualization and access to the posterior oropharynx. Commonly used during tonsillectomy, palatoplasty, uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), and diagnostic or operative exposure of the lateral pharyngeal walls. The narrow blade profile facilitates targeted retraction while minimizing obstruction of the surgical field, allowing the surgeon or assistant to maintain consistent exposure for dissection, suturing, and tissue removal.
Design & Configuration
The instrument's single-blade hand-held configuration delivers direct, controllable retraction. A 13.5 mm blade width provides a low-profile contact surface suitable for working in the confined posterior oropharynx, while the 24 cm overall length gives sufficient reach for adult patients and improved leverage from outside the oral cavity. The blade geometry balances focal retraction with a reduced footprint in the operative line of sight to facilitate instrumentation and suctioning.
